Troika Music Festival 2009 and a few other items

Hi Folks,
The festival kicks off November 5th at Central Park in Durham, NC.
Okay for you it might be the first your hearing about this or it might be the second or third time you have played the festival. Whatever it maybe I love the way Adam a WKNC DJ breaks it out. Sounds like he is going to have a blast!
He mentions so of the artist on our label and that is always nice to see. I tend to some times forget that part because I am so close to the details. Things like do we have volunteers, we need t-shirts, passes, an off-duty cop, permits, rentals, pa, venues, posters and press. I tend to forget there are folks out there making their plans to spend the three days getting the most out of them. That is why this festival is so important. It has been since the first year I volunteered.
Last year we had our friend Alex Nathan involved. He was so excited to be a part of the festival. He filmed many of the performances and saw lots of the shows and at the end of the festival...he told me he could barely walk but he had so much fun.
Alex passed in May so he will not be here with us this week however there won't be a show or person that I run into that won't remind me of him.
We are so lucky to be in a city filled with great artists and fans. It is so exciting to see the energy at our local shows these days. I can't even begin to trace back to where we started, it seems so long ago.
See you Thursday at Troika!

Troika Music Festival (http://troikamusicfestival.org/)
various downtown venues, Durham
This is the 5th annual Troika Music Festival, which has its roots in the
Durham Music Festival, which itself dated back to ~2002 or so. Been
doing this for a while, in other words, and each year is better than the
last.
Full schedules & lineups can be found at the website
(http://troikamusicfestival.org/), and since there are like 80 bands
playing, I'm not going to enumerate them all here.
All you really need to know is that there are 21 discrete shows at a
total of 9 separate venues, spread across 3 nights, and while they may
not all be walking-distance (depends on how fast you walk, I guess),
they're certainly biking distance from each other. And if you gotta
drive, parking shouldn't be too bad at most venues, either.
So your $20 festival pass could, if you put some effort into it, give
you a decent shot at seeing at least 30 of the bands. Not too shabby.
(You can also do single-night passes for $8 apiece, if you know you'll
be unable to make one of the three nights.)
